Terry Butcher was one of Ipswich Town’s great defenders and a central figure in Bobby Robson’s outstanding side of the late 1970s and early 1980s. He came through at Portman Road and made 272 league appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals, before leaving in 1986. Powerful in the air, brave, and a natural organiser, he became the leader of Ipswich’s defence and helped the club win the 1981 UEFA Cup. He was also part of the side that pushed for the league title in the early 1980s, and his form at Ipswich helped launch an England career that brought 77 caps in total.
