Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s 1997–98 season was their first after promotion into the Scottish Second Division, and they finished a solid 5th under manager Steve Paterson. In the cups, they reached the Scottish Cup 4th round, went out in the League Cup 2nd round (a 2–2 draw at Motherwell, then lost on penalties), and exited the Challenge Cup in round one. Up front, Iain Stewart was league top scorer with 16, while Brian Thomson hit 20 in all competitions. Their highest attendance was 5,821 vs Dundee United.
