Dean Windass is Hull City’s ultimate hometown hero. Born in Hull and developed by the club, he had three spells with City, but one moment defines him forever: the 2008 Championship play-off final. Aged 39, Windass scored a spectacular first-half volley against Bristol City at Wembley, giving Hull a 1–0 win and sending them into the top flight for the first time in their history. He had already been a cult favourite, but that goal made him a club legend. For Hull supporters, Windass represents local pride, timing and one perfect strike that changed the club’s future.
