Ken Wagstaff became one of Hull City’s greatest-ever players after joining from Mansfield Town in 1964, forming a formidable strike partnership with Chris Chilton and earning the affectionate nickname “Waggy” from Tigers supporters; his goals were instrumental in Hull winning the Third Division championship in 1965–66, a spectacular season in which City scored more than 100 league goals, and he continued to excel as the club challenged near the top of the Second Division; skilful, powerful and an outstanding finisher, Wagstaff scored 197 goals in 434 appearances for Hull between 1964 and 1975, placing him second only to Chilton among the club’s record goalscorers and securing his status as an enduring Boothferry Park legend.
