Peter Taylor was the manager who properly kick-started Hull City’s modern rise. Appointed in 2002, just before the move to the KC Stadium, he brought structure, recruitment and momentum after years in the lower divisions. Hull finished 13th in his first season, then won back-to-back promotions: Third Division runners-up in 2003/04 and League One runners-up in 2004/05. That took City into the Championship for the first time since 1990/91. He left for Crystal Palace in 2006, but Taylor’s spell laid the platform for the club’s later Premier League breakthrough.
