Robert Koren became a key figure in Hull City’s return to the Premier League after joining on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion in 2010, bringing creativity, intelligent movement and a valuable goalscoring threat from midfield; the Slovenian international quickly became an influential player and later club captain, producing memorable long-range strikes while helping Hull rebuild following their 2010 relegation; his most important campaign came under Steve Bruce in 2012–13, when Koren contributed crucial goals as the Tigers finished second in the Championship and secured automatic promotion to the Premier League, before remaining an important squad member during the historic 2013–14 season in which Hull achieved their highest top-flight finish and reached the FA Cup final; after more than 150 appearances and over 30 goals, Koren left in 2014 having played a central role in restoring Hull to the highest level.
