Curtis Davies became a major figure in Hull City’s most successful modern period after joining from Birmingham City in 2013, immediately establishing himself as a commanding centre-back and leader under Steve Bruce; in his first season he helped the Tigers achieve their highest-ever league finish and reach the 2014 FA Cup final, where he scored Hull’s second goal as they surged into a 2–0 lead over Arsenal before eventually losing 3–2 after extra time; Davies subsequently represented City in the Europa League, remained through relegation in 2015 and played an important role as Hull returned to the Premier League by defeating Sheffield Wednesday in the 2016 Championship play-off final; making more than 170 appearances before joining Derby County in 2017, Davies is remembered for his leadership, consistency and prominent role in an unprecedented era for the Tigers.
