Phil Brown’s Hull City team talk at half-time against Manchester City on 26 December 2008 became one of the most infamous moments in Premier League history. Manager Phil Brown kept his players on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium and delivered a public dressing-down while they sat in a circle on the turf. Hull City A.F.C. were 4–0 down at half-time, and Brown later said he wanted to shock them into reacting. The second half improved — Hull drew it 0–0 — but the damage was already done. The incident drew huge media attention and divided opinion: some saw it as humiliating, others as a bold attempt to spark a response. Either way, it became one of the most memorable and unusual managerial moments of the Premier League era.
