John “Robbo” Robertson (John Grant Robertson) is one of Hearts’ all-time greats and their record league goalscorer, hitting 214 league goals for the club across two spells (1981–88, 1988–98). A ruthless striker, he earned the nickname “Hammer of Hibs” for scoring a record 27 competitive derby goals against Hibernian. He was the spearhead of the brilliant mid-80s side that agonisingly missed out on the 1985–86 league title on the final day. He later returned to Tynecastle as head coach in 2004–05, taking Hearts to cup semi-finals before leaving that summer.
