Craig Gordon is a Hearts academy graduate who debuted in October 2002 and became the club’s No.1 during a standout first spell (2002–2007). He was a key figure in the 2005–06 Scottish Cup win (saving a shootout penalty vs Gretna) and was voted SFWA Footballer of the Year that season. In 2007 he left for Sunderland in a then record fee for a British goalkeeper. He returned to Tynecastle in June 2020, helped Hearts win the 2020–21 Championship, and came back from a serious double leg break (Dec 2022) to extend his stay—first to summer 2025, then to summer 2026.
