Jimmy Sandison was a useful and dependable Hearts player in the 1980s rather than one of the club’s all-time headline stars. An Edinburgh-born defender, he came through at Tynecastle and played for Hearts between 1984 and 1991, making 84 first-team appearances and scoring 3 goals. He was valued for his versatility and reliability across the back line, and one noted highlight of his Hearts spell was an impressive man-marking job on Herbert Prohaska in a European tie against Austria Vienna. Sandison later became more famous for his long captaincy spell at Airdrie, but Hearts remained the club where his senior career began.
