Craig Levein was an outstanding Hearts centre-back whose career at Tynecastle ran from 1983 to 1997, combining composure, strength and excellent reading of the game; despite two serious knee injuries, he made over 300 appearances, played in the dramatic 1985/86 title challenge and earned Scotland recognition, including selection for the 1990 World Cup, before later returning as Hearts manager and guiding the club to consecutive third-place Premier League finishes, making him an important figure across multiple eras of the club’s history.
