On 24 September 2013, Greenock Morton stunned Celtic Park by knocking Celtic out of the Scottish League Cup at the third-round stage, winning 1–0 after extra time. It was 0–0 after 90 minutes, with Celtic controlling much of the ball but lacking a cutting edge. Six minutes into extra time (97’), referee Bobby Madden awarded Morton a penalty when Efe Ambrose was penalised for handling while challenging substitute Archie Campbell. Captain Dougie Imrie smashed the spot-kick home to clinch a famous upset for the Championship side, in front of 15,709 fans. Morton defended desperately, rode late pressure, and celebrated wildly.
