From 1991 to 1993, Greenock Morton were a solid second-tier side with a cup headline. In 1991–92 they finished 7th in the First Division on 46 points, scoring 66 and conceding 59, and reached the Scottish Cup fifth round before losing 3–0 to Celtic. League Cup ended early: a 4–2 defeat to Celtic in round two. In 1992–93 Morton improved to 6th (48 points; 65–56) and reached the B&Q (Challenge) Cup final at Love Street, losing 3–2 to Hamilton Accies, but exited the Scottish Cup third round at Arbroath and League Cup round two vs Kilmarnock, a rare showpiece run.
