Greenock Morton were founded in 1874 and are one of Scotland’s historic football clubs, playing at Cappielow Park and traditionally wearing blue and white hoops; known as “The Ton,” their greatest achievement came in 1922, when they defeated Rangers 1–0 at Hampden Park to win the Scottish Cup, with Jimmy Gourlay scoring the decisive goal; Morton also enjoyed notable periods in Scotland’s top flight, particularly during the 1960s and late 1970s, when prolific striker Andy Ritchie became one of their greatest-ever players; closely associated with the shipbuilding town of Greenock, the club retains a passionate support and a distinctive place in Scottish football history.
