Gary Macartney was one of Glentoran’s standout strikers of the late 1980s and early 1990s, so highly regarded that supporters nicknamed him “G-Force.” Glentoran’s own Hall of Fame places him among the club’s key figures from that era, while later club tributes still mention him as a fan favourite. He is remembered as a strong, complete centre-forward who mixed goals with presence and big-match quality, and one of his most famous moments was a celebrated wonder goal against Linfield in 1989. In simple terms, Macartney is remembered as one of the Glens’ most loved attacking players of that period.
