Billy Caskey was one of Glentoran’s standout players of the late 1970s and 1980s. A gifted attacking midfielder who could also play up front, he had two spells at the Oval and is recorded with over 300 league appearances and more than 90 league goals for the club across them. He helped Glentoran win the 1976–77 Irish League title and later the 1985 Irish Cup, while his individual quality was underlined when he won the Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Player of the Year award for 1976–77. In simple terms, Caskey mixed flair, goals and class, making him one of Glentoran’s notable modern-era talents.
