Barney Bowers was one of Glentoran’s standout midfielders of the 1980s and early 1990s. He joined from Derby County in 1981 and went on to make 524 appearances and score 108 goals, which keeps him among the club’s leading appearance-makers and scorers. Glentoran’s Hall of Fame describes him as a creative but combative presence who helped shape the club’s success across that era. His honours list included the 1991–92 Irish League title, the 1989–90 Irish Cup, two League Cups, four Gold Cups and five Ulster Cups. In simple terms, Bowers mixed quality, toughness and longevity, making him one of Glentoran’s most influential modern players.
