Van der Sar was a huge signing for Fulham in 2001, arriving from Juventus just after promotion to the Premier League. Fulham’s own timeline calls it a major coup, and he quickly gave the club top-level quality and status in goal. He played for Fulham from 2001 to 2005, making 154 appearances in all competitions and 127 in the Premier League. Fulham later highlighted that he kept 52 clean sheets in his four seasons at Craven Cottage, and he was voted the club’s Player of the Year in 2004. At Fulham, Van der Sar is remembered for world-class consistency, calm authority, and raising the club’s profile before his move to Manchester United in 2005.
