Kevin Ratcliffe was the captain and defensive anchor of Everton’s mid-80s peak: quick across the ground, sharp at reading danger, and happy doing the ugly stuff. He became skipper at 23 and led them to the FA Cup in 1984, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1985, and Football League First Division titles in 1984–85 and 1986–87. He made 450+ appearances for the club and won 50+ caps for Wales.
