Mikel Arteta’s Everton FC era (2005–11) was where he became a Premier League conductor. Signed on loan in January 2005 by David Moyes and made permanent that summer, he ran games with crisp passing, tempo control, and deadly set pieces at Goodison Park. He won the club’s Player of the Season awards in 2005–06 and finished with 162 league games and 27 league goals—often as the penalty/free-kick specialist. He left for Arsenal in 2011.
