Everton’s 1984–85 European Cup Winners’ Cup run is the club’s signature European triumph. Led by Howard Kendall, they drew 0–0 away to Bayern Munich before a famous 3–1 second-leg win at Goodison Park to reach the final. On 15 May 1985 at Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, they beat Rapid Wien 3–1 (goals: Andy Gray, Trevor Steven, Kevin Sheedy; Hans Krankl for Rapid). They couldn’t defend it because of the post-Heysel Stadium ban on English clubs.
