Gary Lineker was England’s defining No. 9 of the late 1980s: 80 caps, 48 goals (1984–1992), leaving him fourth on England men’s all-time scorers list. He was lethal at World Cups—Golden Boot winner in 1986 with six goals and added four more in 1990 as England reached the semi-finals, making him England’s record World Cup goalscorer. A notable footnote: he’s often cited as having never been booked across his career.
