David Beckham made 115 appearances for England (1996–2009), scoring 17 goals and supplying 39 assists, with much of his impact coming from elite crossing and set pieces. He captained England 59 times between 2000 and 2008, and played five major tournaments: World Cups in 1998, 2002 and 2006, plus Euro 2000 and 2004. His defining England moment was a stoppage-time free-kick to draw 2–2 with Greece at Old Trafford in October 2001, sealing qualification for the 2002 World Cup.
