Germany 1–5 England was a 2002 World Cup qualifier played on 1 September 2001 at the Olympiastadion in Munich. Germany scored first through Carsten Jancker, but England flipped the match before half-time: Michael Owen equalised, then Steven Gerrard (his first England goal) made it 2–1. England exploded after the break—Owen scored twice more to complete a hat-trick, and Emile Heskey added the fifth. The result transformed England’s qualifying position and became one of their most iconic modern away wins.
