Paul Sturrock was one of Dundee United’s most important forwards of the Jim McLean era. Dundee United say he became the club’s top scorer by 1976–77, and Arab Archive credits him with 385 league appearances and 109 league goals for United across a one-club playing career from 1974 to 1989. He helped the club win the 1979 and 1980 League Cups and the 1982–83 league title, and his form also brought 20 Scotland caps. He later returned as manager in September 1998, but resigned early in the 2000–01 season after United’s form dipped following Billy Dodds’ sale.
