Dave (David) Narey is one of Dundee United’s greatest-ever players, spending 1973–1994 at Tannadice and making 612 league appearances (22 goals) — a club record — and 800+ in all competitions. A calm, classy defender (who began as a midfielder), he won three major honours with United: the 1982–83 league title and back-to-back League Cups (1979–80, 1980–81). He was a pillar of United’s European peak, featuring in the 1983–84 European Cup semi-final run and captaining the side in the 1987 UEFA Cup final.
