Peter Houston’s Dundee United spell is defined by the 2010 Scottish Cup win. After serving as Craig Levein’s assistant, he took charge in December 2009, initially on a caretaker basis, and was then confirmed permanently in May 2010 on a three-year deal. He led United to a 3–0 win over Ross County in the 2010 Scottish Cup final, giving the club its first major trophy in 16 years. United later said he also helped deliver European qualification in three consecutive seasons before leaving by mutual consent in January 2013. For Dundee United, Houston is remembered mainly as the manager who turned a transitional period into silverware.
