Paul Hegarty is one of Dundee United’s defining figures: a commanding centre-back, long-time captain and later coach and manager. Dundee United describe him as their “greatest-ever captain,” while club-history sources credit him with leading United to their first major trophy, the League Cup in 1979, retaining it in 1980, and captaining the side that won the 1982–83 league title. He also played a major role in United’s famous European years and was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame in 2008. Arab Archive records 707 appearances and 82 goals for United, underlining just how central he was to the club’s history.
