The 1986–87 season is one of the most famous in the history of Dundee United. Managed by Jim McLean, United combined domestic consistency with a remarkable European run. They finished third in the Scottish Premier Division, competing strongly against the Old Firm, but it was in Europe where they made history. United reached the UEFA Cup final, defeating Barcelona along the way, before losing to IFK Göteborg. The campaign showcased tactical discipline, belief, and continental pedigree, cementing Dundee United’s status as one of Scotland’s great European sides.
