Tommy McConville is widely regarded as one of Dundalk’s greatest ever players. A local man and elegant defender, he made a club-record 580 appearances across two long spells and became one of the defining figures in the side’s history. His honours haul with Dundalk was huge: three League of Ireland titles, three FAI Cups, two League Cups, a League of Ireland Shield, two City Cups, three Leinster Senior Cups and three LFA President’s Cups. He also won international caps for the Republic of Ireland. In simple terms, McConville was not just a great Dundalk player, but one of the club’s all-time icons.
