Dundalk’s 2020 FAI Cup run ended in triumph, as they won the competition for the 12th time. In a pandemic-affected edition featuring only League of Ireland clubs, they produced one of the standout moments in the cup’s history by beating Athlone Town 11–0 in the semi-final, a record victory in the competition. The final, played on 6 December 2020 at the Aviva Stadium, saw Dundalk beat Shamrock Rovers 4–2 after extra time. David McMillan was the hero with a hat-trick, sealing the trophy in dramatic fashion. In simple terms, it was a cup run remembered for both sheer ruthlessness and a brilliant final win.
