Jason Gavin was an important defender in Drogheda United’s most successful modern spell. The centre-back joined in the summer of 2005 and quickly became a key figure at the back, helping the club build from cup winners into league champions. During his three seasons at United Park, he won the Setanta Sports Cup in 2006 and 2007 and was part of the side that claimed the 2007 League of Ireland title, the first top-flight championship in Drogheda’s history. He was also named League of Ireland Player of the Month in April 2006. In simple terms, Gavin was a tough, reliable part of Drogheda’s breakthrough era.
