Paul Doolin was the manager who drove Drogheda United into the most successful spell in their history. Taking over in 2003, he raised standards, moved the club to a fully professional footing, and turned them from strugglers into trophy winners. Under Doolin, Drogheda won their first-ever FAI Cup in 2005, then back-to-back Setanta Sports Cups in 2006 and 2007, before landing their first League of Ireland title in 2007. They also made real progress in Europe during his reign. In simple terms, Doolin was the architect of Drogheda’s breakthrough era and one of the most important managers the club has had.
