Patrick McEleney is one of the standout Derry City players of the modern era. A Derry-born midfielder, he had two spells with his hometown club, first from 2010 to 2015 and then from 2022 to 2024, and became known for his close control, creativity and ability to carry the ball through midfield. He helped Derry win the 2010 First Division title, the 2012 FAI Cup, the 2022 FAI Cup, and the 2023 President’s Cup. He was also club captain from 2022 to 2024. In simple terms, McEleney combined flair with importance, and he remains one of the most naturally gifted players Derry produced in the modern era.
