Mark Farren was one of the greatest players in Derry City’s modern history. Signed from Monaghan United in 2003, the striker became the club’s all-time leading League of Ireland-era goalscorer, finishing with 113 goals in 313 appearances in all competitions according to Derry City, while wider records also credit him with 114 goals in 209 competitive League of Ireland-era appearances. He was central to Derry’s success in the mid-2000s, helping them win the 2006 FAI Cup and League Cups in 2005 and 2006, and he was named PFAI Player of the Year in 2005. After his death in 2016, Derry retired his number 18 shirt.
