Liam Coyle is one of the greatest players in Derry City history and is often spoken about as the club’s outstanding modern icon. A gifted forward from Derry, he starred across several spells at the Brandywell, winning the famous domestic treble in 1988–89, another league title in 1996–97, and three FAI Cups overall. He was also named PFAI Young Player of the Year in 1988–89 and Players’ Player of the Year in 1994–95. Derry’s records list him among the club’s top appearance-makers, while wider accounts credit him with 112 goals in almost 400 games for City.
