Derry City’s 2006 FAI Cup win is remembered as one of the competition’s great finals. They beat St Patrick’s Athletic 4–3 after extra time at Lansdowne Road on 3 December 2006, claiming the cup for the fourth time. Pats led more than once, but Derry kept coming back, which is why the game became so famous. The winner was an own goal by Stephen Brennan deep into extra time, and the match was later voted the greatest ever FAI Cup final. It also mattered because it capped a superb Derry season that included a League Cup win, a second-place league finish, and a strong UEFA Cup run.
