John O’Hare was a key striker in Derby County’s rise under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor. Signed in 1967, he became an important partner for Kevin Hector, giving Derby a hard-working, physical focal point in attack rather than just raw goals. He helped the club win promotion from the Second Division in 1968–69 and then played a major role in the 1971–72 First Division title triumph, Derby’s first league championship. Across his Derby spell from 1967 to 1974, he made 248 league appearances and scored 65 league goals. He also won Scotland caps while at Derby, which underlined the level he reached there.
