The Baseball Ground was Derby County’s iconic home from 1895 until 1997, renowned for its tight pitch, intimidating atmosphere and supporters being incredibly close to the action; originally used for baseball, the ground became synonymous with Derby’s greatest era, hosting the teams that won the First Division titles in 1971–72 and 1974–75 and memorable European nights under Brian Clough and Dave Mackay; legends including Kevin Hector, Roy McFarland, Archie Gemmill and Colin Todd starred there, while its record attendance exceeded 41,000; Derby moved to Pride Park in 1997, with the first team’s final competitive Baseball Ground match coming against Arsenal in May that year.
