Derby County’s 1971–72 season was one of the greatest in the club’s history: Brian Clough and Peter Taylor led the Rams to their first ever First Division title, finishing on 58 points and winning the championship by a single point from Leeds United, Liverpool, and Manchester City. Derby sealed their own part by beating Liverpool 1–0 in their final game at the Baseball Ground, then had to wait while Leeds and Liverpool failed to get the results they needed on 8 May 1972. It was a tough, balanced side built on players like Roy McFarland, Colin Todd, Archie Gemmill, and Kevin Hector, and it changed Derby forever.
