Gary McAllister was one of Coventry City’s classiest modern midfielders and later also managed the club. As a player, he joined in 1996 and brought control, intelligence, and superb passing to the side, making 119 league appearances and scoring 20 league goals in his first spell. He was named Coventry City Player of the Year for 1999–2000, reflecting how influential he had become. He then returned in 2002 as player-manager, adding a second, shorter spell before retiring. In total, he made 174 league appearances and scored 30 league goals for Coventry. Technically gifted and authoritative, McAllister was one of the standout figures of Coventry’s late Premier League era.
