Chelsea won the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League, their second European Cup, by beating Manchester City 1–0 in the final on 29 May 2021 in Porto. Thomas Tuchel, appointed in late January, quickly built a tight, pressing side with a strong back three and elite transition play. Chelsea topped a group with Sevilla, Krasnodar and Rennes, then knocked out Atlético Madrid, Porto, and Real Madrid. The final was decided by Kai Havertz, who rounded Ederson and finished after a through ball from Mason Mount. N’Golo Kanté dominated both semi-final legs and the final.
