Mohamed Salah’s Chelsea spell (2014–2016, though he barely played in 2015–16) was the awkward “in-between” stage before he became elite. Signed from Basel in January 2014, he struggled for starts under José Mourinho and mostly featured as an impact sub. He scored memorable league goals vs Arsenal (6–0) and Stoke (3–0), but consistency and minutes were hard to find. By February 2015 he was loaned to Fiorentina as part of the Juan Cuadrado deal, then moved on loan to Roma in August 2015, where his career properly took off.
