Roberto Di Matteo at Chelsea has two chapters: underrated player, immortal manager. As a midfielder (1996–2002) he was dynamic and attacking, famous for scoring in FA Cup finals in 1997 and 2000—including that lightning-fast strike in the 1997 final—before injury ended his time early. As manager, he became a legend in 2012: appointed caretaker, he steadied the dressing room and delivered the club’s greatest night, winning the Champions League in Munich, then added the FA Cup weeks later. He was made permanent boss, but was sacked in November 2012 after a downturn. Still: pure Chelsea folklore.
