Hernán Crespo’s Chelsea spell (2003–2006) was a case of undeniable class that never quite fit perfectly. Signed from Inter in 2003, he showed his pedigree immediately—sharp movement, first-time finishing, and a poacher’s instinct—and scored regularly in his first season. But he struggled at times with the Premier League’s rhythm and, later, with José Mourinho’s tactical demands for a more all-action, pressing-forward profile. Crespo spent 2004–05 and 2005–06 on loan at AC Milan, including playing in the 2005 Champions League final. He left permanently in 2006, remembered as a top striker whose best Chelsea moments came in flashes.
