Jimmy Seed is widely considered the most important manager in the history of Charlton Athletic. Appointed in 1933, he transformed Charlton from a struggling lower-division side into one of England’s strongest clubs within a decade. Under Seed, Charlton achieved successive promotions from the Third Division to the First Division and then became consistent top-flight contenders in the late 1930s. His greatest achievement came after the Second World War when Charlton reached the FA Cup final three years in a row, winning the competition in 1947 against Burnley. Seed managed the club for more than 20 years and helped establish The Valley as a major football ground. His legacy is so significant that a stand at The Valley is named after him.
