Artur Boruc joined Celtic in 2005, initially on loan from Legia Warsaw, and quickly became a cult hero for his shot-stopping, swagger and big-game nerve. He was first choice through Gordon Strachan’s best years, starring in Champions League nights and saving Louis Saha’s late penalty in the 1–0 win over Manchester United. Across five seasons he made 221 appearances, winning three league titles, one Scottish Cup and two League Cups. Fans dubbed him the Holy Goalie, and his personality sometimes made headlines, but his quality was undeniable. He left for Fiorentina in 2010, as Celtic’s last line and an icon.
