Billy McNeill is one of Celtic’s greatest ever figures — the club’s captain, legend, and symbol of pride. A commanding centre-back, he made over 800 appearances (1957–1975), captaining the Lisbon Lions to victory in the 1967 European Cup, the first British side to achieve it. He led Celtic to nine consecutive league titles, seven Scottish Cups, and six League Cups, scoring the famous winning header in the 1965 Cup Final that began the club’s golden era. Later, as manager, he guided Celtic to multiple trophies between 1978–83 and 1987–91. The Billy McNeill Statue stands proudly outside Celtic Park in his honour.
