The photo of Brendan Rodgers, Pope Francis, and a Celtic F.C. jersey was taken during Celtic’s visit to the Vatican in 2017, when Rodgers was manager. Celtic players and staff met the Pope as part of a cultural trip, and they presented him with a Celtic shirt as a gift. The image went viral because of the surreal crossover between football and the Vatican, with many fans jokingly calling it the ultimate “holy endorsement” for Celtic. It’s now a well-known piece of modern Celtic pop-culture folklore.
